about Thomas J. Avery

Howdy! Thank you for taking the time to look around, and I hope you enjoy my website. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear them. Please email me.

I am a photographer living in Houston, Texas, USA. I earn a living as a subsea structural engineer in the offshore oil and gas industry. I live with my wife and two sons (and three cats) in a comfortable suburb northwest of Houston. I graduated from Texas A&M University College Station (class of 1997) with a bachelors degree in Ocean Engineering.

My Purpose
I photograph because I want to do so on a very deep and personal level. I have an overwhelming desire to visually communicate and share my meaningful and emotional experiences in nature with other people.

I enjoy shooting natural landscapes the most. I also like to photograph wildlife, insects, flowers, plants, and just about anything else naturally occuring. I've had a strong love for hiking, camping, and being in the outdoors for as long as I can remember, and photography helps to enhance those experiences and share them with people.

Visually communicating a full sensory experience through a photograph is difficult to do, and this makes photography (effective photography) quite challenging. But I really enjoy the photographic process. It's exciting and fun and takes me to wonderful places. A big part of my purpose is to have fun.
